About Minimates Central
Minimates Central: A Brief History
Minimates Central was born on September 21st 2003. At that time, the first 3 waves of Marvel Minimates had just been released yet there was no dedicated review site that I could find. Sites like Michael's Review of the Week and Millionaire Playboy covered them, but not exclusively. Thus, armed with my trusty digicam and a very dynamically coloured quilt for a background, I started Marvel Minimates Central.
Marvel Minimates Central covered all of DST's Marvel Minimates. Although the first Minimate I had ever bought was the Iron Maiden Eddie Minimate, I had no plans to cover the older 3" line, and at that time there were no other 2" lines. This all changed with the introduction of the Lord of the Rings Minimates and the C3 construction block sets, so a change was needed. I registered Minimates Central as a domain name, chopping off the "Marvel" so I could cover the other lines. Having a "real" domain name instead of an unwieldy free webspace domain name was a very big move for me, and opened up the site to a much wider audience.
www.minimatescentral.com opened in June 2004, and later that month featured its first non-Marvel reviews as the LOTR line hit. Since then, I have added a C3 section, plus made the decision to cover the earlier 3" lines as well to try and make Minimates Central a definitive review and picture resource. A revamp of the site took place in April 2005, with a new colourscheme, logo and menu system, and a forum added.
Running Minimates Central has been a big part of my life for over 2 years now, and has given me the chance to interact with Minimates fans all over the world, for which I am truly grateful.
A Little About Me
Hi, my name is Danny (known as Divebomb or Proximity on most of the forums I frequent) and I am a toy geek. From collecting vintage and new Star Wars toys in the mid 90s to amassing an extensive Transformers collection to my new love of Minimates, it's all about the toys, despite reaching the grown-up age of 30!
Also enjoy films, music and comics, and am heavily addicted (read: obsessed) with the Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game "City of Heroes" which was released in Europe in March, and I've been playing since mid-April. Being a super-hero, flying around firing energy bolts at bad guys is just so much fun!
The picture on the right, taken at Universal's Islands of Adventure in May 2004 should also explain a few things... My love of Marvel comics, and of that sassy Southern hottie Rogue (and her ample charms ;)) and of America in general. Am looking to go back to the States next year, hopefully around the time of San Diego Comic Con. Should be an absolute blast!
My Favourite Minimates - November 2005
Which Minimates are my favourite this month? Warning - some I list here I might not have gotten around to review yet. Fret not, if they are listed, they will be reviewed at some point!
1. (5) Magdalena
Just something about this one continues to beguile me.
2. (NE) Iron Fist
Love this guy. A very under-rated Minimate.
3. (RE) Catwoman
You sexy, sassy thing you.
4. (NE) Captain America (Battle Damaged
Even Battle Damaged, Cap is still the man.
5. (NE) Ben Reilly
He's Spider-Man without being the 743rd version of him in Minimate form! Result!
6. (NE) Gamma Hulk
Still one of the more unique translucent Minimates.
Special fact :- These six are the ones I am taking with me on holiday, hence their inclusion on this list. Yay!
